Wedmin, although not officially a word (yet) is a word that all newly engaged couples will most likely be familiar with. The admin that goes into planning a Wedding can be fun, however it can also feel overwhelming at times. Information overload is the main cause of wedmin fatigue and often, the choices can be mind-boggling. Luckily, I’ve put together some top tips which should make your wedmin woes feel like a breeze – after all a wedding is all about fun and celebration, so the planning for it should be enjoyable too!
Do Delegate
Don’t be afraid to delegate roles to your bridesmaids/groomsmen/family members/friends and get them involved. They are there to help you with your big day and would feel honoured to help!
Turn wedding planning into date nights
Take your wedding planner book to dinner and you can both talk all things wedding whilst treating yourselves to some time out together.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
Whilst the small details are everything, if it’s causing you too much stress and guests are not going to notice if something is there or not, drop it!
Don’t overlook/undervalue certain suppliers
Conversely to the last point – don’t overlook bigger things like your DJ (by the way, I highly recommend Real Event DJs, also based in Devon) – as your wedding entertainment is one of the most important aspects of the day – so don’t undervalue the significance of any your wedding suppliers!
Embrace a Realistic Budget
It might be that dreaded ‘B’ word, but if you establish a clear and realistic budget from the outset, you can prioritise your spending based on what matters most to you and your partner. A well-planned budget will help you make informed decisions and avoid unexpected financial stress later in the process. Remember a wedding is the first day of a marriage, where decisions on money will have to made together.
Expect the Unexpected
Be prepared for unforeseen challenges. Create contingency plans for weather-related issues, or other unexpected situations. Having backup solutions in place can ease stress and keep your wedding day on track. If you’ve been let down by another photographer, even if last minute, do get in touch and I’ll see how I can help.
Communicate
Let each other know what your priorities are for the day, what’s important and what’s not so important.
Look after yourself
This is probably the biggest one. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well and are still finding time for yourself. Whether that’s going to the gym, a night on the sofa or a night out with friends. If you are in a better head space, the planning will be natural and it won’t feel like a chore!
Consider Booking Direct
There are a number of platforms out there that can find dozens of wedding suppliers to quote for your day all at once, like AddToEvent or Bark. Whilst these sites can be really convenient and useful, bear in mind that each supplier will have to pay to respond to your query/needs – this means the supplier may have to add a charge to your booking to cover this, as well as often pooling from a narrow section of the market (or those with the deepest pockets). If you book direct with a supplier, you’ll always make sure you get the best price and the widest choice – as you won’t be limited to who’s on a single platform.
Stay Organised
Maintain a detailed wedding planning binder or use digital tools to keep all contracts, timelines, and notes in one place. We’re not saying go fully Monica Geller, but staying organised helps you easily track progress and make informed decisions – and keeps any future headaches at bay. If you’re looking for a wedding planning book, I’d recommend using Claire Austin’s ‘Our Wedding Planner‘. If you’re impressed by Claire’s wedding planner, she also does the most beautiful bespoke bridal hair accessories.
Book me as your photographer
OK, well this one is a bit subjective, but if you are looking for a skilled photographer to capture the magic and events of your most special day (anywhere in Devon or Cornwall) – please do contact me. I try to make things as easy as possible to keep your wedmin woes to an absoulute minimum!
