Picking the perfect wedding venue can be a tricky task, as there’s so many variables to consider which can bring a completely different feel to the date. As a venue is such a central part to your day, once you have a date and venue sorted, you can then let the ‘wedmin’ (wedding admin) commence by contacting your suppliers and letting your guests know to save the date. When considering your perfect venue, you may wish to consider the following:
- Date/Date Range: Have a date range in mind when considering your venue. Some venues only operate during the main ‘wedding season’ March-October and can be booked up years in advance. The sooner you book, the sooner you can guarantee availability. If you like a venue, but can’t get the date you want, you may want to consider a nearby midweek date.
- Online Search: Use search engines and wedding venue directories to find a list of venues in your desired location. Websites like WeddingWire, Hitched, Bridebook and others often have reviews and ratings from couples who have previously used these venues.
- Local Recommendations: Ask friends, family, or colleagues in the local area for recommendations. Personal experiences can give you valuable insights into the quality of a venue.
- Visit Wedding Fairs: Attend local wedding fairs or exhibitions where you can meet venue staff, see their setups, and gather information about their offerings. You may also have the opportunity to talk to some suppliers. Over the years, I’ve found wedding fairs particularly useful in meeting couples.
- Social Media: Check social media platforms for reviews, photos, and comments from couples who have tied the knot at your prospective venue. Many venues have official pages showcasing their facilities.
- Visit Venues in Person: Once you’ve shortlisted potential venues, schedule visits to see them in person. This will give you a better sense of the space, amenities, and overall ambiance. It’ll also give you an idea of on-the-day logistics, and whether this will work for your idea of how you want your order of the day.
- Read Reviews: Look for reviews on various platforms to get an idea of the experiences other couples have had with specific venues. Pay attention to both positive and negative feedback. Both Google Reviews and Facebook can be useful insights.
- Local Wedding Planners: Wedding planners often have insights into the best venues in the area. They can provide recommendations based on your preferences and budget.
- Trust your intuition: Sometimes it is important to listen to your gut. If you fall in love with a venue and it gives you a warm tingling feeling, then that is your sign to book it! If you need a guide to booking your wedding within Torbay, click here.
